Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson Sued Over Chet's 2015 Car Accident
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been hit with a lawsuit after their son, Chet, got into a car accident on a freeway in Southern California last year while driving a car registered to them.
According to TMZ, the lawsuit alleges that Chet was under the influence when he rear-ended a man named Terry Moogan. Although Chet wasn't charged with a DUI, Moogan says that Hanks and Wilson should have never allowed their son to drive the car because he was "under the influence of drugs and or alcohol at the time."
Police were not called to the scene of the February 2015 accident, Moogan claiming that Chet "begged" him not to involve the cops. Over a year later, this accident has come back to haunt Chet… and his parents.
"Moogan says Chet's parents should be responsible since they negligently handed him the keys."
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are being sued for an unspecified amount of financial damages. Mr. Moogan claims that he suffered whiplash and a brain injury as a result of the crash and he is looking for compensation, likely to cover his medical bills and beyond.
According to E! News, it is unclear if Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson can be held accountable for their son's actions. The plaintiff's attorney however, does seem to think so.
"Because Tom and Rita are the parents and the owners of the vehicle Chet was driving, Terry and his legal team argue that they are responsible for the physical and emotional injuries sustained as a result of the crash," reports E! News.
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have not commented publicly on this matter. Do you think Tom and Rita should have to pay this man? Or is Mr. Moogan just looking for a pay day?
