Man Spends $50,000 To Build A VERY Lifelike (And Creepy) Scarlett Johansson Robot
A Hong Kong man, Ricky Ma, is making headlines for having spent $50,000 to create a female robot prototype called the Mark 1. The project, which has taken him a year and a half, would be noteworthy for all the right reasons if that was the end of the story.
But it's not.
Its appearance is modeled 100% on American actress Scarlett Johansson.
Even if you don't' agree with modeling a robot on an actress you've never met, you have to admire the guy's tenacity in building a robot of any sort.
"When I was a child, I liked robots. Why? Because I liked watching animation . All children loved it. There were Transformers, cartoons about robots fighting each other and games about robots.
"After I grew up, I wanted to make one. But during this process, a lot of people would say things like, 'Are you stupid? This takes a lot of money. Do you even know how to do it? It's really hard'."
The robot responds to a small set of commands and can even make simple facial expressions. The robot's skeleton was made by a 3D printer, and the skin, which looks quite lifelike, is made of silicon. All in all, about 70% of the finished product was made via 3D printer.
