Lakers Reportedly 'Isolating' D'Angelo Russell After Nick Young Video Surfaces
Sources tell ESPN the Los Angeles Lakers are isolating D'Angelo Russell after a video he recorded of a teammate admitting he cheats on his girlfriend surfaced online.
The video has been the talk of the locker room.
Russell secretly recorded teammate Nick Young in a hotel room, as Russell questioned him about the various women he's slept with over his basketball career. Young told him he had sex with a 19-year-old girl "last summer."
"You was 30 and she was 19?" Russell asked Young of the girl he met in a club. He seemed judgemental of the age difference in the video.
Young's currently engaged to popstar Iggy Azalea. They've been engaged since last June.
Lakers personal are aware of the issue and they aren't very happy with Russell. However, sources say they aren't intervening at this point.
A team insider said: "This was a prank gone wrong and a mistake by [Russell], and he has to be held accountable, but I would hope he isn't overly criticized for it."
"Right now," one source said of Russell's teammates, "they're handling it by isolating him."
At a recent breakfast meeting, one source said, no Laker would sit with Russell at his table. The source added that, in another instance, Russell came into the locker room and sat next to guard Lou Williams, who got up and walked away.
"It's bad," one team source told ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne. "It's about as bad as it can get. There were trust issues already. Now there's no trust."
Sources say that Russell, who was the second overall pick in the NBA draft, is mentally like a "14-year-old."
"He's such a kid," coach Byron Scott said in February. "I told him the other day, 'You're 19, but sometimes I think you're 14.'"
This video from just before the 2012 London Olympics puts Russell's age into perspective.
He's that young.
Azaela commented for the first time on Wednesday morning.
The Lakers suffered a franchise worst 48-point loss to the Utah Jazz on Monday. Many believe the team issues are accountable, however, the Lakers have suffered bad losses all season.
